Half-Angel

In rare instances, a deific fragment can be fused into the soul of a mortal yet still alive. The resulting creature is not quite an angel, as she still possesses the free will of a mortal and yet resides on the prime material; nor is it quite a mortal, as she enjoys the benefit of a direct connection to the Divine itself.

Nor are these creatures considered parangels or neodaemons, as their physical form is a true mortal shell rather than an animated piece of a dead deity.

Instead, they are referred to simply as half-angels or half-daemons, a roughly accurate description of them from the standpoint of the soul.

Creating a Half-Angel

"Half-angel" is an inherited template that can be added to any living, corporeal creature with an Intelligence score of 4 or higher and nonevil alignment (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

A half-angel uses all the base creature's statistics and special abilities except as noted here.

Size and Type

The creature’s type changes to outsider (augmented). Do not recalculate the creature’s Hit Dice, base attack bonus, or saves. Size is unchanged. Half-angels are normally native outsiders.

Speed

A half-angel has wings and can fly at twice the base creature’s base land speed (good maneuverability). If the base creature has a fly speed, use that instead.

The appearance of a half-angel's wings are dependent upon the cleric domain which it is tied to.

An angel can suppress and manifest its wings as a move action. Suppressing its wings removes the half-angel's ability to fly, but only a detect divine or similar effect can reveal them (doing so reveals the wings as ephemeral to the viewer).

Armor Class

Natural armor improves by +1 (this stacks with any natural armor bonus the base creature has). Special Attacks

Special Attacks

A half-angel retains all the special attacks of the base creature and also gains the following special abilities.

Divine Abilities

A half-angel with an Intelligence or Wisdom score of 8 or higher has two or more prayer-like abilities, depending on its Hit Dice. The abilities are cumulative

Unless otherwise noted, an ability is usable once per day. Petitioner level equals the creature’s HD, and the save DC is Charisma-based.

The abilities gained by a half-angel depend entirely upon the divine fragment that has been imbued into its soul. In general, a divine fragment is strongly related to a specific cleric domain, which determines the divine abilities granted by the fragment.

Upon gaining their 21st Hit Die, creatures with this template can choose one of their daily divine abilities and gain double the uses for that ability per day. At each odd HD thereafter, a creature chooses another ability, for which they gain double the uses. Once all abilities have been selected, the creature can choose each ability again, doubling their uses (thus, for an ability initially usable 1/day, it would be usable 2/day, and then 4/day, and so forth).

Time

A half-angel imbued with a divine fragment strongly associated with the cleric domain of Time gains the following divine abilities.

The wings of such a half-angel are metallic, with joints greatly resembling clock-faces; rather than feathers, the wings consist of a multitude of sharp metal blades.

Because of the nature of these abilities, they are considered Time-aligned as well as Divine-aligned; as such, both Temporal Opposition (TO) and Divine Inhibition (DI) apply (a creature that has both has two attempts to resist such an effect).

In addition, a half-angel imbued with Time gains the following additional special qualities.

  • Temporal Synchronicity, as per the epochent ability.
  • Time Sensitivity, as per the epochent ability.
  • A half-angel of Time, upon reaching 2 HD, becomes Time-aligned and gains UO and CO equal to one-half its HD, rounded down.

Special Qualities

A half-angel has all the special qualities of the base creature, plus the following special qualities.

  • Darkvision out to 60 feet.
  • Immunity to disease.
  • A half-angel’s natural weapons are treated as divine weapons for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
  • Nature Inhibition and Void Inhibition equal to the half-angel's HD.
  • +4 racial bonus on Fortitude saves against poison.
