This is a new mechanic for the d20 system.

Job

A job is a set of abilities that are useful and interesting, but are insufficient to warrant a full class. A job augments a character's abilities, allowing her to diversify her skill set, shore up her weakness, or specialize in her strengths; they do not, by themselves, represent the full breadth of what an individual is capable of.

Some original d20 classes, such as the bard and ranger, are now jobs, rather than classes. These classes have thematic and useful abilities, but are no longer justifiable in Trinity as full classes due to a difference in balance paradigms.

In addition, jobs allow for a middle-ground between standard PCs and NPCs: individuals who are not quite adventurers themselves, but have a more useful skill set than what most NPC classes allow.

Terminology

The following are new terms used in this section.

Job
A set of abilities that are tied together thematically. You progress through a job as you would a class, starting at first degree and ending at tenth degree. Jobs do not go into Epic progressions: once you finish a job's progression, you finish it. However, you can spend a feat to acquire more talents from your job (see the Feats section, below).
Degree
Degree is to job what level is to class. Given that you do not spend levels in jobs, it was inappropriate to give them levels. The term "degree" is used in every way that "level" normally is.
Job Skills
Every job has a number of job skills, which are similar to class skills. However, before you gain the class skill bonus from a job skill, you must purchase that skill (see JPs, below).
HPs (Hit Points)
Some jobs grant you bonus HP. If they do, you gain the listed amount as bonus HP at that degree.
JPs (Job Points)
Most jobs grant you JP. You can spend 1 JP to make a job skill into a class skill, allowing you to benefit from your class skill bonus for that job. Alternatively, you can spend JP as though they were skill points, with 1 JP being equivalent to 1 skill point.
BAB
Some jobs improve your BAB. If they do, add the listed bonus to your BAB; treat this as though your class had improved your BAB. Under no circumstances can your BAB exceed your character level or hit dice, whichever is higher.
Saves
Many jobs give you bonuses to saving throws. At each level, you gain the listed bonuses as bonuses to your saving throws; these stack with the saving throw progressions provided by your class.

Overview

To gain a degree in a job, you must spend a feat to do so. Your degree in a job is equal to the number of feats you have spent on it.

Special: You cannot spend a talent gained from a class on a feat to gain a degree in a job.

Unlike classes, jobs do not grant you hit dice, nor BAB or saving throw progressions. When affected by an effect that is level-based, or producing an effect that is level-based, you do not use your job degrees in these calculations; the only time job degree is used in a calculation is when the effect specifically states that it is keyed off of job degree. The exception to this rule is Force Resistances: if you have a job that is Force-aligned, you add your class levels and job degrees together to determine the totals of your Force Resistances.

You can only spend feats on jobs if you gained the feat through normal character progression. If a class or other source grants you a feat, you cannot spend that feat on a job degree.

Job List

This is a list of jobs.

Explorer
Explorers specialize in getting into - and out of - places that are dangerous. Able to contend with locks, traps, and difficult terrain, explorers are able to gain entry into places most people would think twice about attempting to enter.

Feats

The following are a selection of feats that are relevant to the job concept.

JOB TALENT [General]
You have a greater breadth of knowledge in one of your jobs.
Prerequisites: At least one job talent.
Benefit: You gain a talent from the talent list of one of your jobs. You cannot select a talent from a job in which you do not have at least one job talent.
