Divinomental

A divinomental.
A seemingly-weightless presence floats gently above the ground. Everything around it seems to waver, as though wanting to shut out the searingly bright light that emanates from it. A feeling of power, of curiosity, and of benevolence that could easily turn to tyranny surrounds it. The presence seems devoid of any features that would give it perceptive powers, yet you cannot shake the feeling that it is watching you, and even more, knows you better than anything in existence should.

A divinomental is a direct channel to the Divine, a breach into the Metaphysic in which the Divine was sealed in the early days of the world's existence. Such a creature does not ever naturally occur - they must be caused, and even then, the whole of reality recoils from such a creature and seeks to snuff it out as quickly as possible.

Divinomentals are related, in a fashion, to the True Gods of old, in that they are a bridge from reality into the Metaphysic that the Divine can use to exert its will on the world. Divinomentals, however, are not independent agents like the deities were; they are extensions of the very Divine itself. Their presence greatly empowers those who call upon the Divine, though doing so may cause the creature to simply disappear as reality exerts more and more pressure upon the fissure to the Metaphysic.

Divinomentals are, for the most part, neutral towards most creatures they encounter. However, they are actively hostile towards Nature- and Void-aligned creatures, and will attack them on sight. As with all Force elementals, a divinomental attacking a creature with an opposed Force alignment will not stop until either it or its target is dead.

The presence of a divinomental does not often go unnoticed by the world. Nearly every time a divinomental appears, a geomental appears nearby shortly thereafter, with the sole purpose of its existence to destroy the divinomental.

Divinomentals come in the same relative sizes as other elementals: small, medium, large, huge, greater, and elder. The larger and older a given divinomental, the stronger its connection to the Metaphysic, and thus its size increases and its abilities become more dangerous.

Divinomentals do not speak, but understand Truespeech.

Divinomentals are one of the types of force elemental.

Combat

Divinomentals that engage in combat call directly upon the Divine to destroy their foes. Each Divinomental is different, able to use different prayers; which prayers a particular divinomental has access to is impossible to tell. Because of their direct connection to the Divine, divinomentals do not need to vocalize prayers - instead, they simply will, and the world bends. Due to this, divinomentals are incredibly dangerous to creatures that anger them.

Lore

A character knows the following information with a successful Knowledge (Religion) or Knowledge (The Forces) check.

Knowledge (Religion)

  • DC 15: Divinomentals are bizarre elementals that are composed of raw divine energy. Each divinomental is relatively unique, and their abilities vary wildly.
  • DC 16: Divinomentals do not speak, and only those that know how to use prayers - and thus know Truespeech - can communicate with them.
  • DC 18: Divinomentals are direct conduits to the Divine itself, a breach from reality into the Metaphysic.
  • DC 19: Divinomentals seem able to sense nature or the void, especially those who use these forces. They become immediately hostile when nature or the void is in their presence.
  • DC 20: It is understood that divinomentals, as an extension of the Divine itself, are able to absorb holy energy that they successfully resist.
  • DC 22: The presence of a divinomental greatly empowers divine prayers, though the more prayers used in the divinomental's proximity, the more likely the elemental will dissipate.

Knowledge (The Forces)

  • DC 18: Divinomentals are bizarre elementals that are composed of raw divine energy. Each divinomental is relatively unique, and their abilities vary wildly.
  • DC 20: The presence of a divinomental will almost certainly result in the formation of a geomental nearby, whose sole purpose is to seek out and destroy the divinomental.

Summoning a Divinomental

Some prayers are capable of bringing forth a divinomental.

Note that only divine prayers are capable of producing a divinomental. Other forces with effects that are capable of summoning or otherwise resulting in the appearance of an elemental cannot produce a divinomental.
