This creature is my own creation.

Geomental

A geomental.
What stands before you seems to be a tree, perhaps even a treant, but the presence of large, pulsing crystals throughout its form dissuades you from buying that explanation. Atop its vaguely-humanoid form, a chunk of crystal juts from beneath branch-like growths, and two slivers of glowing green energy stare at you from its refractive depths.

A geomental is an expression of the force of Nature, attuned directly to the living universe itself. While such creatures can occur in regions that are deeply attuned to Nature, they are most often either summoned by those aligned with Nature, or are brought about by Gaia in response to the appearance of a divinomental or nihimental.

Geomentals are distant relatives of the Eidolons, so-called "reality elementals" of immense power that serve Gaia in a similar fashion to how the Scions served the True Gods before the Fracture. Unlike Eidolons, however, geomentals are not unique, and are direct connections to the Nature itself, rather than empowered or representative of it.

Geomentals are, for the most part, neutral towards most creatures they encounter. However, they are actively hostile towards Divine- and Void-aligned creatures, and will attack them on sight. As with all Force elementals, a geomental attacking a creature with an opposed Force alignment will not stop until either it or its target is dead.

Geomentals come in the same relative sizes as other elementals: small, medium, large, huge, greater, and elder. The larger and older a given geomental, the stronger its connection to Nature, and thus its size increases and its abilities become more dangerous.

Geomentals do not speak, but understand Druidic.

Geomentals are one of the types of force elemental.

Combat

Geomentals wade into combat using their oversized limbs to physically crush their foes, and also call upon the force of Nature when appropriate to do so. Each geomental is different, able to use different gifts; unlike most force elementals, however, geomentals give some display of the powers at their disposal, often reflected in the coloration of the crystals throughout their bodies (usually corresponding to the element associated with the terrain from which they sprang). As direct expressions of the power of Nature, geomentals count themselves as the terrain they came from, and as such rarely - if ever - are subject to geomantic Stress.

Lore

A character knows the following information with a successful Knowledge (Nature) or Knowledge (The Forces) check.

Knowledge (Nature)

  • DC 15: Geomentals are bizarre elementals that are composed of raw natural energy. Each geomental is relatively unique, and their abilities vary wildly.
  • DC 16: Geomentals do not speak, but seem to understand Druidic.
  • DC 17: Geomentals are also Plant creatures, in addition to being an Elemental.
  • DC 18: Geomentals are direct conduits to Nature itself, a temporary surge of Gaia's power concentrated into a localized area.
  • DC 19: Geomentals seem able to sense divine or the void, especially those who use these forces. They become immediately hostile when divine or the void is in their presence.
  • DC 20: It is understood that geomentals, as an extension of Nature itself, are able to absorb some energy types that they successfully resist. The energy type a given geomental absorbs is based upon the terrain from whence it came.

Knowledge (The Forces)

  • DC 18: Geomentals are bizarre elementals that are composed of raw natural energy. Each geomental is relatively unique, and their abilities vary wildly.
  • DC 19: Unlike most force elementals, geomentals are also Plant creatures, in addition to being an Elemental.
  • DC 20: The presence of a divinomental or nihimental will almost certainly result in the formation of a geomental nearby, whose sole purpose is to seek out and destroy the offending force elemental.
  • DC 25: Some moogle machinists are capable of summoning geomentals based on the Machine gift suite. Such creatures are rather similar to technomentals, and share some of their traits. Such geomentals are never naturally-occurring.

Summoning a Geomental

Some gifts are capable of bringing forth a geomental.

Note that only natural gifts are capable of producing a geomental. Other forces with effects that are capable of summoning or otherwise resulting in the appearance of an elemental cannot produce a geomental.
