"A moment lasts all of a second, but the memory lives on forever."

To study the whole of history, from the inception of the world to this very moment, is a difficult and demanding task. However, the rewards reaped from such an endeavor cannot be denied: akashics - as such students of history are known - develop an understanding of history and information a level above most mortals.

The key to their success is the meme, conceptual packets of information. By understanding the structure of information, and learning how to extract, manipulate, condense, and control it, akashics gain an ever-increasing level of awareness of the world around them.

While personal memory is fickle, and events become forgotten by those who experienced them, akashics tap into a far more reliable source of such information: world memory. Over time, akashics become accustomed to, and even reliant upon, the concepts of causality and the reliability of how the world works, ignoring what they know and focusing instead on what they wish to learn. Given this mechanistic mindset, akashics tend to get along well with Technology- and Nature-aligned individuals, who share similar outlooks on existence.

Game Rule Information

Akashics have the following game statistics.

Force Alignment: Blue.

Force Resistances: TO 5 + level, CO 5 + level.

Abilities: Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma are all equally important to an akashic. She gains bonus active meme slots based on her Wisdom, bonus memory based on her Intelligence, and additional belief-space based upon her Charisma.

Hit Die: d6.

Class Skills: All skills are class skills for the akashic.

Skill Points at Each Level: 10 + Int.

Alignment: Any.

Starting Age: Moderate.

Starting Gold: 4d4 x 10gp.

Favored By: Adu'ja, Gnome, Vesuvan.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the akashic.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Akashics are proficient with all simple weapons and light armor, but not shields.

Memes (Me): The abilities of the akashic are memes, the purview of the blue. Akashics acquire their knowledge of memes from the world memory, and represent the many and varied ways in which an akashic can modify, manipulate, or otherwise interact with memories.

An akashic can know any number of memes, but she can only have so many actively accessible at one time ("Memes," on the table). The akashic can change what memes she has access to after a night's rest.

You gain additional active meme slots equal to your Wisdom modifier.

Memory (Me): An akashic has only so much of her personal memory that she can devote towards her memes; however, when she does so, those memes increase in power. A meme cannot have more than memory invested in it than your memeticist level.

As a swift action, you may choose to reallocate some or all of your memory.

You gain additional memory equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Belief-Space (Me): As a memeticist, the akashic is able to incorporate foreign memes directly into her belief-space, incorporating the meme into her personal memory. This process allows her to gain deeper understanding of the meme's pattern (and therefore, the information it contains), but it is also possible that the meme will taint and modify the akashic's personality and memories.

The akashic can have the indicated number of memes bound to her belief-space. The integration or removal of such bound memes is an involved process, and so the akashic can only change her bound memes after a night's rest.

Delve Into Blue

If you have a Charisma modifier, you gain an additional belief-space at every even akashic level, until you have bonus belief-space equal to your Charisma modifier.

Delve Into Blue: The akashic is trained in accessing the world memory, allowing her to retrieve knowledge that she has not necessarily learned but that some other creature may have. She may make a special delve into blue check with a bonus equal to her akashic level + her Intelligence modifier to see whether she knows some relevant information about a given topic (a person, place, thing, or event).

You gain a +2 synergy bonus to this check if you have 5 or more ranks in Knowledge (History).

A successful delve into blue check will not reveal the powers of a Force item but may give a hint as to its general function. An akashic may not take 10 or take 20 on this check; the accessibility to this sort of knowledge is essentially random.

Akashic Talent: At 10th level, and every two levels thereafter, the akashic learns a new ability. She may select one of the following special features; unless otherwise specified, each ability can be selected only once.

• Remember the World (Me): The akashic gains knowledge of the remember the world meme. (Prerequisites: Memeticist level 16th+)
• Feat: An akashic can gain a bonus feat in place of a special ability.
