A yuanaga.

Yuanaga are my own creation, based loosely on the yuan-ti which are very definitely copyright of WotC. Everything else here is my own.

Yuanaga

"My people have existed since the birth of the world. It speaks to us in ways you cannot understand."

The first peoples to attain sentience and understand the world around them, the yuanaga naturally arose from the serpents of the world, gaining size, strength, and intelligence. Their ties to the natural world are stronger than any other race, but their numbers dwindle, having been subjected to nearly every calamity that has struck the world.

During the First Epoch, the yuanaga flourished, covering the world and developing a sophisticated culture. However, when a great comet struck the world and threatened to plunge it into an endless winter, the yuanaga secreted themselves in citadels they crafted to withstand the cold and the ravages of time, entering a deep sleep from which they hoped to awaken when the world was once again warm. Thus did the yuanaga survive the Ageless Winter, while other races came to the fore.

The winter did pass, and the yuanagans emerged from their bastions of safety into a world that was no longer theirs. Allying themselves with a group of humans who understood the power of nature, together they formed the Kiltian Republic, a safe haven for yuanaga in a world now unfamiliar to them. However, not all yuanaga survived the passage through the Ageless Winter; still others were warped by strange forces that permeated some of the citadels, transforming the yuanaga into twisted versions of themselves.

Now significantly fewer in number, the yuanaga were content to let the humans and other races largely direct the course of their cultures, preferring instead to take advisory roles. The yuanaga found themselves often significantly outliving their mammalian counterparts, and over time, found that new generations were interested in investigating other phenomena in the world. The yuanaga, much closer to the Force of Nature than others, quietly returned to the background, returning to their citadels to meditate on the nature of Gaia, and let the world pass them by.

In the modern world, the yuanaga are very few in number, and those who are left prefer to remain close to the citadels they constructed to allow them passage through the Ageless Winter. Some yuanaga continue to sleep deep within these secret places, and the yuanaga of today continue to guard their locations as carefully as possible, to ensure the safety of those that yet sleep.

Personality: Yuanaga are cautious, careful, and thoughtful. They often think long before they act, preferring extensive planning to rash action. While in the past yuanaga were significantly more varied, those who survived through the Ageless Winter came through their experience with the Kiltians and various other cultures with the conclusion that, now that the world is no longer theirs, they must act with significantly more forethought.

Below the waist, yuanaga are entirely serpentine, with the strong coils of a constrictor. Yuanaga Racial Traits (d20)

  • -2 Dex, +2 Con, +2 Wis. Not particularly agile, yuanaga are rather hardy and often possess a degree of wisdom lacking in younger-lived races.
  • Monstrous Humanoid: Yuanaga are monstrous humanoids, not humanoids. As such, they are not affected by spells or effects that normally only affect humanoids.
  • Medium.
  • A yuanaga’s base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision: Yuanaga can see in the dark up to 60 feet + 10 feet/+1 Perception modifier (a negative modifier reduces this distance). Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight, and isci can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Inhibitions (Ex): Yuanaga have DI and VI equal to their level, and are considered Nature-aligned. These resistances overlap (do not stack) with oppositions gained due to class.
  • Stability (Ex): Yuanaga receive a +4 racial bonus on any d20 rolls made when resisting bull rush or trip attempts while standing on the ground.
  • Slapping Tail (Ex): Yuanaga have a tail they can use to make attacks of opportunity with a reach of 5 feet. The tail is a natural attack that deals 1d6 points of damage plus the yuanaga's Strength modifier if Small, 1d8 points of damage plus the yuanaga's Strength modifier if Medium, or 1d10 points of damage plus 1-1/2 times the yuanaga's Strength modifier if Large.
  • Tripping Tail (Ex): When a yuanaga hits with her slapping tail, she can make a trip attack as a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
  • Elemental Affinity (Na): At character creation, choose one Natural element. A yuanaga's elemental affinity is often reflected in her scale coloration, skin tone, and hair color; for instance, yuanaga with Earth affinity often have brown scales, bronzed skin, and green hair.
    • Elemental Alignment (Na): You gain resist 5 against your chosen element. You gain vulnerability 5 against your chosen element's opposing element.
    • Elemental Power (Na): Whenever you invoke a gift with the descriptor that matches your elemental affinity, you invoke that gift at +1 geomancer level.
    • Elemental Soul (Na): You treat your Wisdom score as 2 points higher for all gift-using classes.
  • Automatic Languages: One Common language, one Trade language, Twili. Bonus Languages: Any.
  • Favored Class: Choose one - caller, shaman.
