The Epoch Trigger is a temporal event, which triggered the events that led to the adventures of Angelus Errare.

This page is very much so under development. Nothing here is canonical yet.

Description

The Epoch Trigger is the event that directly led to a weakening of the Keystone Timeline, opening temporal rifts throughout time in key periods, which are understood to be points of "least temporal resistance." The precise location and timing of each temporal rift is understood to generally occur at a time and place that is pivotal to the development of the history of the world as we know it.

Causing alterations to the timeline that would prevent one or more of these key events from occurring results in an alternate timeline splitting off from the Keystone Timeline after the introduction of the preventing event. These alternate timelines are myriad in number and varied in content; it is theorized that there are infinite alternate timelines.

A time-traveling individual who causes such a split is caught in the alternate timeline until the alteration is undone. Some particularly powerful temporal jikuu can allow an individual to pass from one alternate timeline to another, and there may be naturally-occurring effects that allow such a temporal jump.

Time Error

Of particular note to those interested in the Epoch Trigger is the concept of time error. An individual that travels through time accrues time error, such that when they travel to other times, they arrive at the closest temporal rift's opening time plus their own time error.

The opening and closing of temporal rifts is also a function of time error; an individual cannot access a rift until his time error is at least equal to the time error of the temporal rift, and cannot access a rift after it's closing time in terms of time error.

Temporal Rifts

The following is a list of the temporal rifts present in Trinity.

It is important to note that all temporal rifts bridge the Keystone Timeline, reaching from one time into another. Entering a temporal rift from its "destination" leads the traveler to its "source," and entering a rift's "source" brings you to its "destination."

Note that not all rifts are two-way: some, like the Arcadian Rift, are one-way only.

The Arcadian Rift is located in the heart of the ruins of Arcadia Magic City. Formed by the fusion of magic and technology in a single construct, the Rift itself rests above the epicenter of the destruction.

It is theorized that the appearance of Ronkan technology in other times and locales is due to the formation of this temporal rift.

The Ivory Rift is located in the western foothills of the Barag Range, in a lonesome, desolate, unremarkable location. Its destination is located outside of the fallen remains of Kotrit Wayveri's tower, which remains barely visible above the sands somewhere in the vast expanse of the Desert of the Unspoken.

It is believed that this rift is the result of a massive temporal jump undertaken by one of Kotrit's generals, who had captured the epochent Atalo Wellwaters during the War of the Illusionist, and used his jikuu as a means of escaping being hunted.

Caused by the eruption of Lavos into the Keystone Timeline, the Lavos Rift reaches from the future of Adnez into the past. In particular, its future end rests in the bottom of a subway station in Neo Mechanicus, in the region where Lavos first arrived in the timeline; its past end is known to be somewhere relatively near Lesalia, but its precise location is currently unknown.

It is known that this particular rift sees significant temporal traffic by Lavos Cultists, a fanatical end-of-the-world group from the future.

The Shield Rift was caused by the accumulation of a multitude of temporally-displaced items and individuals in a small area, accompanied by the activation of an artifact from the Kiltian era. This accumulation led to the creation of a temporal rift to the ancient past.

The Shield Rift was shortly thereafter closed by an unknown, supposedly epic Blue effect.
